I've been doing some work for someone, but never met them.

Had many phone calls and many, many e-mails.

We agreed on a price for the work, they accepted over the phone. (So I've not got it on e-mail as proof )

Now it's come to paying me, they've decided it's too expensive. (Even we agreed a price).

I got a little concerned I wasn't going to get paid at all, so I've been generous and lowered the price 10%. They still say it's too expensive.

What should I do now? I've met my side of the agreement 100%, time scales, prices, services and also paid my own money out for them (Ordered business cards & letterheads)

Put the price back up and tell them if they don't pay you'll be increasing the bill by 10% every week you're out of pocket.

If it's proper business to business transaction you can legally charge interest but if not then you'll just have to make do with changing your mind. As there's no durable agreement in the first instance and neither of you is protected as such then you can change the price just like they are trying to.

It's a proper business to business transaction Ian. I gave them the benefit of the situation and said I would lower it 10%.

As it stands they currently owe me over £800.

Only thing what puts me off doing what you're suggesting, is they won't pay a penny.

Barnshaw - They live somewhere in Scotland, its too far just to pop up there mate.

Dan - They've pretty much said they're not paying, even after them saying they're really pleased with the work and how quickly its happened etc.

Write it off and learn from it fella.

Been in the same situation myself and got sweet FA back, to the tune of an amount just over a grand, pretty much the same as you.

Go down the proper channels, never assume that they're trustworthy no matter how much you know them, make sure things are wrote down and agreed.

I have no idea, throwing it into the mix.
Something of £800 though would be better than nothing if they aren't willing to pay at all.

Elaborate more on this story, is it the sort of work where you have a tendered price and received an order for the work? Or have you just done it without an order and planned on doingthe paperwork after? It's all abit vague.

Whenever I do work for someone I always get 50% deposit upfront and get them to sign an agreement.

There's always people ready to screw you over unfortunately.

my best mate was in a similar situation last year, the guy wouldnt pay up and it ended up in a small claims court. did you make them sign a contract or anything? if not, learn from the mistake and make them sign a contract stating they are paying for your services. That way you will have written proof of the work and the clients signature to confirm the work
