Are there any catches with big space external drivers on a budget?
Seen a couple on play / ebuyer for 70-80 quid, 750gb & 1TB - are these likely to take ages to copy data across or are they pretty much the same
gonna start purchasing music soon so going to be keeping it safe backed up

You can get 1TB external drives for about £63 now. I'm sure Curry's or Tesco's were doing them just after Christmas.
USB2 is used on many of the cheaper ones but some do have eSATA and this is quicker. You'll obviously need an eSATA port on your PC or you can get an internal card with ports.
Or if you have a spare HD or can source one cheaply, you can get an eSATA/USB2 caddy for about £13.

My Mum's got a 1TB Western Digital MyBook World Edition.
It's got Network access rather than USB, works very well, not too slow to copy data across.

if you want max portability get a usb powered one so you dont need the cable with a huge plug in the end

i went for the 1tb maxtor basics, circa £100.
also have a WD my book for network storage.
i dont see the WD as very portable though.
you'll struggle to find anything over 500gb without an external power source

Missed that.
They're a bit cheaper now, I think.

Space for your poRn, music, vids, torrents etc... and maybe a bit of improved read/write times but mainly space
