I am currently researching offsite backup solutions for my business and came across DropBox.
Apparently you can backup and sync files to/from your computers and their secure server. You can get a free account which gives you 2Gb of space or you can upgrade for $$.

The free bit interests me greatly LOL, I was originally going to FTP my files to one of my web servers but I don't know the best way to synchronise files, this DropBox service looks like a solution but obviously a bit wary about uploading confidential files to a random server in America... Hmmm...

What's the use? Simply back up or sharing to clients and customers?
If back up, I'd buy an external HDD and set a daily back up thing via Windows just before you leave work and such.
If you require the ability to send larger files to people, try http://www.yousendit.com
Also, if you want online storage back up, get a Googlemail account. It was 100mb, possibly even more now

That's not a suitable backup solution though Deano. For full safety backups should be stored offsite, otherwise what happens if a water pipe bursts everywhere, there's a hurricane, the building burns down e.t.c...

Take it with you every day
Or use the Googlemail set up.

These are my own company's (confidential) files, which need to be stored off-site as well as locally. They wouldn't be shared with anyone.
I already have an in-house server which does a local backup onto removable media, but I also want an offsite backup solution where I can synchronise remote <=> local files.
I thought about FTP to one of my web servers which is one solution but am not sure how that would synchronise files, as I would not want to transfer everything everyday for obvious reasons.

OK I found a solution better than DropBox, it's called Syncplicity
http://www.syncplicity.com
Free account gives you 2Gb and 2 computers can sync/backup, plus if you refer 3 friends that accept the invites you get an extra 1Gb per accepted invite and I think they get an extra 1Gb in their free account too (let me know if anyone wants a referral LOL).
The reason it's better: DropBox only syncs one folder whereas Syncplicity can handle multiple ones which you can specify.
