First time I have posted in general chat for a while, but the little brother is looking for a van.
With quite a list of specifications
Not a full sized one, but a mini van do not know the technical term.
Great MPG as he works all over the country.
Side Sliding door if possible.
Newish say three years old max
I recommend the transit connect, does any one else have any suggestions.

Theres a lot of choice in that area really. Ford connect, Vauxhall combo, peugot parter the list goes on!
Does he have any preferance of make? Personally for that size of van my choice would be the combo over the connect. Theres a little more space and goes alrite to. The connect is very sluggish.
Check my work out for a few ideas.

astra 1.7cdti are quick little things but they are very small
transit connect a fair bit bigger with side door, i prefer these to the astra at work a lot easier to get things in/out of and drive well

Vaux combo is ok astravan is better but obviously no sliding door.
Transit connects are good/reliable vans only thing which really goes are intercooler pipes but there easy/cheap/common
Vw caddy/transporters wicked little vans would have a caddy.
wouldnt really touch peugeot experts or partners, sloppy gearboxes.
Out of all id go for astravan as newer ones have quite high spec if you find a nice 1 but if you have to have sliding door then definately a VW caddy. I work on most vans all day everyday and hardly ever have any come in for non service items.

I'd recommend a Combo with the 100ps CDTi engine. Get the Combo 2000 instead of Combo 1700 as it has a better payload.
Can't really go wrong with a Connect mind. Dad has always had full sized Transits and have never let him down. Can't see the Connect being that bad.
Failing that, a Caddy with new TDi engine rather than SDi.

you cant compare an astra van and a combo, astra vans are too small to be "vans"

The hatch rear is nice to stand under when it rains  mind you, you can get a Combo with hatch style rear, I think.

Yeah, it does, considering someone has created a thread asking about vans, which probably indicates they know nothing about them.. And considering both the Combo and Astravan come with 3 different diesel units, getting the right 'retail engine codes' will probably be helpful.

I didnt think much of the transit connect we had, the doblo is much better, the propper transit is king though, I love it

the interior is class, has a propper good stereo and heater, 3 glove boxes ans 2 full 2ltr bottle holders
