tried that..put all options back to default etc. Told all my files to open with it, perferences are set for it, in winamp i've tried to set it up to just double click and play, surely thats default :S

i'll try deleting the registry for the program too, then see what happens.

Normally Windows passes the filename as a parameter to the .exe file which a file type is associated with (i.e. winamp.exe %s) %s = the name of the file. It sounds like Windows isn't doing that.

use the media libary and do a scan of you music folder, that's the easiest way.

Otherwise, right-click the open and select 'Open Folder', that'll put every audio/video file from a directory into the playlist.

Placing all of the track in the playlist is a bit of a ballache, but that's why they have the media libary - it's pretty simple to use.

Not sure what you're getting at here as i though you had a problem with winamp not playing the audio files, not winamp having problems with codecs :confussed:

Have you tried re-associating audio/video files with winamp?
I would first re-associate video/audio files by Right-Clicking a file (mp3 etc), properties, click 'Change' (should say, open with: Winamp then a button next to that), then select Windows Media Player and OK. It should then associate everything with Media player. Then do the same, except change the 'Open With' to Winamp.

If that fails, also do the following -
Ctrl+P in winamp, then select 'File Types', click 'None', OK and exit winamp. Start it back up and then in the 'File Types' menu, select Audio or Video or Both, OK and exit.

Btw, what version of winamp are you using? As i believe there was a problem with file association in versions 5.52 and 5.53.

Also it might be worth posting on the winamp forums if you are using the recent 5.54 release.
