Just read something briefly about the Fresh Kills land fill site on Statten Island.
Some of the World Trade Centre debris went here after September 11, but it was partially closed before then.
Apparently at it's peak, the pile of crap was 25 metres taller than the Statue of Liberty, but i'm finding that quite hard to picture. Google images doesn't have anything decent, so i was wondering if anyone can find any images or if anyone had been themselves?
Due to be renovated into parkland over a long period of time, but i'm more interested in the landfill.
Anyone?

Wouldn't it have been a deep hole in the ground before though, so its height when compared with the surrounding area could well mean that it is 25m taller from top to bottom.

Possibly, but it's on an island, so i wouldn't of thought they could dig down that far. (not that i know how big Statten Island is)
