Evening all. First post time.

The Brief Plan

Corsa Merit, standard to look at, small block XE, get a gearbox with 5 gears, better suspension, 256mm brakes, lack of interior and..... err....... that's about it. Well apart from not spending a lot of money!

So Far

I then fitted some Mk3 Astra sport 15" steel wheels as one wheel was a bit dented and another had tread like Matt Lucas' napper

new sunvisor clips liberated from a vectra in the scrappy

Now I have 2 sets of 15" Astra sport alloys (8 spokes), a set of Phase 2 MK3 Astra GSi 15" twinspokes and some other wheels that I have forgotten about in the garage so I may change my mind on the wheels.

Parts waiting better weather and more time to fit

Supersport springs and shocks - cheers to Rick Draper (MIG + here)
Opel 200tS steering wheel - cheers to Drizz (MIG + mk3oc)
256mm brake set up - from Gra11 (MIG and here) *need to collect*
Pollen filter - bought from a motor factors
GM oil and filter
6k H4 Hi/Lo HID's - currently on my Mk3 Astra Sport

Future plans

*Source and fit an X16XE. Prior to that I may just pick up a 5 speed box and fit it while using the car as a daily driver.

*Tune said X16XE with an ebay powerbox, possibly an exhaust manifold, cam and vernier and a chip.

*Fit the Astra Sport style seats I found in the scrappy

*Polish the bugger and maybe fit new standard badges

All suggestions, comments and piss taking welcome.

Cheers
Melv

Aye was thinking of post 97 bumpers or even just a front one so I can fit a badgeless grill but they have to be black to stick with the merit look.

no ta Stu. I will get them locally to save on postage. This is a total budget project. Scrappys etc.

Cheers Tom but the 256mm brakes will be enough for the X16XE.

Very true Evans. No rust on it either

Alright Lee? Nope. Insurance will be 100% above board as I'm an old fart Well 26.

The standard look is so that if I want to surprise someone I can without having every Sebastien Loeb out there try to "blow me away"

good thinking. To be honest it is just going to be a car that is fun to drive. Interesting but not a super rapid XE / LET.

Not been many updates as this is what its been like since last the 5th of Feb

It was dry today and the mrs was away shopping for shoes or something so I decided to change the oil and filter on my Astra and replace the pollen filter on it as the windows were getting rather steamy in the mornings. Did that eventually after having to borrow an oil filter removla strap type thing.

Also went to fit the pollen filter I bought for the Corsa. It's the wrong frickin size!!!!1one

Took out the old one and hoovered it though

Also got sone small jobs done on it. Changed the short Ariel cable as I broke the bit that goes into the back of the stereo, fitted a glove box I bought from the scrappy as crappy merit spec means you get absolutely nothing. Also treated her to a jetwash as in the winter roads up here are covered in Grit and shit.

No pics as it was getting dark after I faffed about with everything.

Next up is the lowering kit, refurbishing the steel wheels and sourcing a 5 speed box.

OK. Another update. Some of it goes back a wee ehile as I forgot to update this thread

12.04.09

Right...... as promised some more pics.

Glovebox from the scrappy

The back of the car (might have went a bit far with the foot fetish attempt lmao )

Flame red paint

Today involved refurbishing some 14" steels I have as the Astra sport steels will need tidying eventually too.

So I prepped the shed

Wire brushed the steels and took a wire wheel to them too then washed them and let them dry.

started with the insides of them. Stonechip stuff then used up a couple of cans of random paint

then onto the fronts of them. Don't worry they will be black not purple / blue

13.07.09

After Ivan had finished putting Ellie's MGZR back together......... yes........ head gasket lmao it was the corsa's turn for some lovin' I bought supersprint springs and shocks off Rick Draper aaagggeeesss ago so we got those fitted.

The spings and shocks and the MIG foot fetish

Getting started (under the gazebo as it was pissing it down)

The front arch. Some rubbing and painting to be done

The finished product. Hoping it will settle further

Also bought a genuine Opel 200iS steering wheel from Drizz ages ago so thought we would get that fitted too

I should have some 256mm discs and relevant calipers coming soon so that will be next on the list. Fingers crossed they fit under the 14's so I can continue the sleeper look when I get round to changing the engine.

Big thanks to Ivan and his battery gun.

Also polished up the roof to see how it would come up

Bought 256mm discs and the relevant calipers and Green stuff pads 2nd hand from Candyman on MIG

It certainly stops well now. Need to get a better pedal feel though.

will have to get a better pic of the clearance between the 14's and these. There aint much lmao

All I need to do now is give them a quick lick of either hammerite silver or black. Red aint very sleeper

Oh yeah..... forgot to add that it passed it's MOT the other week. List of work:

.
.
.
.

.
.
.
.
.
.

Nothing!!

Advisory on
Slightly frayed handbrake cable
Front discs close to min thickness
Rear bearing has slight play

256mm brakes took care of the discs, a quick tighten took care of the bearing and the handbrake cable will get changed soon.

A deal has been done on an engine for my wee Corsa Merit nowever not the usual 20XE / LET route.

I have arranged to buy a C18XE from brad35 on www.migweb.co.uk

C18XE as found in the 1.8 mk3 Astra GSi and Astra Cesaro. Known to push out more than the 125bhp they are quoted to have.

Got the C18XE Engine, Loom, Ecu , All mounts, Air filter, Coolant hoses and Bottle, Radiator, Drive shafts, Hubs, more valver Calipers, 256mm Discs, gear linkage and dash Clocks for a great price. No box but it should be easy enough to get an F18 or F20. Couldn't really turn it down to be honest.

The drawback - It's in Stevenage just North of Londonshire. However.......

Mum and my step dad stay about 15mins from there so they are handing over the cash and picking it up for me, storing it and taking it up the road when they move back to Scotland.

Good thing about the C18XE is that I have a raft of parts fitted to my C18XEL astra that can be transferred straight over. Lexmaul SS manifold, regal sport cat, magnecor leads. I have a spare TB at home that I am going to look into modifying and the spare set of Cams I have in the shed might just get sent away for re-profiling at some point in the future.

Probably still going to be the least power at Rolling Road days but who cares.

OK. I've vowed not to spend anymore on the Corsa until my next payday 25th August however I got an email through from paypal with a code for £10 off ebay when using paypal so I bought one merit badge (I have one here ) and a newer style corsa badge (I have the vauxhall one here too)

The voucher code was C10EBAY

In total they both cost me £2.90

It's Saturday and I actually got out of my bed at a decent time for a change so I decided to fit the Astra Sport seats that I bought.

I had to use the Corsa subframes. Everything went without issue. I didn't take any during pics but here is a before and after.

Much better!

The rear seats are just back in temporarily to reduce some of the road noise as Ellie is using it to commute at the moment.

picked up driver and passenger side subframes out of a Tigra today. Both are height adjustable so I'm just away to fit them now.

Found £2.25 when removing them at the scrappy too. Result!!

All dismantled and fitted back up with the Tigra subframes now. Just been out in it and the driving position is sooooo much better. Actually under the wheel rather than what felt with in line with it

Tigra adjustable subframe on the right

Magnecor blues

C18XE, shafts, hubs, ancilaries, etc, etc

I have a tinkered with throttle body coming soon too.

Also got a polished TB from Savage on mk3oc the other day too.

Copy and paste time from a few updates on www.migweb.co.uk

Not the best pictures, but the humps and lumps are a lot smaller now, and should make a difference to throttle response etc.

Also took the 200 cell regal sports cat off the Astra Sport I have ready to use on the Corsa

Just need to give it a bit of a clean up. Wire brush the ends and clean up the mating surfaces. That way when the engine is in and the system is being made up the fitters don't have a problem.

Only other progress was that the Corsa came home on the back of a recovery truck on Tuesday as it wasn't getting fuel.

Gave it a bloody good service and it's running sweet again.

It got new GM 10/40 oil, GM oil filter, Fuel filter, spark plugs, dizzy and nearly new leads. I say nearly because I was given the wrong leads from the motor factor. Will be taking them back tomorrow to get them swapped for the right ones.

Discovered that the rear pasenger light cluster is letting in water as the seal has perished so when I am running a bead of silicone round the bathroom flooring I will take that apart and seal it up. Also need to investigate why the carpet is wet in the passenger footwell.
