I know its been covered on numerous occasions and can sometimes cause a stir but i just cant get it into my mates head that a 106 GTI is just as fast as a redtop corsa

Now some of you may know im building a s1 xsi 16v because thier a small light car that would easily give a redtop corsa a run for its money all day long.

Top end id give then redtop its due, but who drives flat out these days?

I know im probably barking on the wrong forum but can anyone put my mate straight and tell him the facts?

ive watched a redtop corsa vs a saxo running a supposided 160 (because it had cams nothing else , and and it wasnt untill about 3rd pushing nearly a 100 where the corsa started to pull.

But saying that, ive also seen a saxo vts on the same stretch side by side with a escort cossworth from like 20- 70

Its all swings and roundabout tbh!

It is. Some folk just take it to the redline (Past Peak power and torque) and just smash it on the limiter and then change!

Its not about hitting the limiter at all. Sounds good but thats time lost in the power.

my mate now selling his s1 rallye with a gti lump in it, stripped with an omp cage i honestly aint seen it race a redtop bt ive heard it eats them for breakfast, my mate has a 106xsi like yours but has green wheels totally stripped out with gti lump and a raceland manifold with pugsport back and made 150bhp on rollers so i can see that eating a redtop, redtops are a heavy engine are they not, even in a corsa, the corsa is still heavier than the 106 anyway, plus that extra weight on front with the redtop,

You cant beat power to weight ratios 106 ftw. Redtops are heavy and over rated imo

Which is handy for up a bank and not always changing gears. The 106s need to reved hard to get the most out of them due to the drop in torque lower down compared to a redtop. So ill agree with you on that one

I used to own a redtop Corsa, now I have a standard GTi.

IMO the redtop will pull away in 3rd but up to that its pretty much neck and neck (although you have to screw the 106 )

Redtop is more fun to drive powerwise tbh, ive had both. but the GTi was just amazing fun going around roundabouts etc.

Top end i think the GTi MIGHT pull it redtops top out about 135

I used to have a redtop and i was disapointed with the power compared to a GTI. They are over rated far too much. I couldn't wait for mine give up so i could drop a let in. I raced my mate in a cammed redtop in my mrs GTI. I was like a sticker on his bumper he give up in the end

Depends on engine condition, driver yadder etc,...

Some were easy pickings, some were harder, and seen some 106/Saxo pull on a redtop.

I had owned my redtop corsa for an hour and had a flat out race against a cammed saxo vts.

It was a rolling start from about 40mph upto hitting the limiter in 5th on the f20 box and he was still at my side.

I have raced other 106 GTi's and VTS's and after 90/100 the redtop would piss all over them.

This is my experiance anyway.
