Opinions? MPG? Are these quicker than a XE?
From what I've heard being a 2.0 T they're quite slow?
Looking into these too though, choice between a GSI, or a CTR

unlike most i've actually owned both. mpg was 28mpg average. it was quite slow, the recaros gave me back ache (no idea why), and was just a kinda bland car. the civic type r isn't an amazing car either but its better than the gsi handling and fun wise, and will probably hold its money better and is certainly alot more reliable. depends if you're gonna mod it i suppose, as the only real way for power from a ctr is forced induction.

martin - what usually goes wrong with them? Would you say its an ideal car to get?! And you think the ctr will hold value better? Take it these break down alot....

generally on the whole vauxhalls seem more unreliable than hondas nissans etc. my old gsi broke not long after i sold it, and heard plenty turbo's going etc.

On the reliability front... I've had mine for 4 years, and its just rolled onto 134,000 miles (had 15,000 when I got it).
The only things to go wrong in this time have been;
1. Water pump failed at around 84,000 (although I've suspicions the garage didn't change it with the timing belt as requested).
2. Bracket snapped off of exhaust back box (good excuse to get a Milltek)
3. Rocker cover gasket has started leaking oil in the last 10,000.
MPG - I could average about 34 with mixed A roads / Motorways / B roads on the 50 mile commute to work.
Performance - 198BHP standard, not too shabby, 0-60 in about 7 seconds.
Had murder back ache for about the first month from the seat... started driving without my wallet in my back pocket, problem solved.
Apart from routine servicing (oil, filters, plugs when needed), tyres, brakes and the timing belt done every 40K, I've not had any major problems. Got a few niggles with it now mind, it feels like theres a flat spot about 2500 RPM, which I think could be the AFM or Boost Control Solenoid.

I average around 32mpg
I have fitted the VXR turbo and courtenay actuator,
It will nip on, they're not the fastest cars known to man, but a very capable performance car for the money.
I had trouble with turbo;s on mine,
But since I fitted the VXR unit myself it's been great. and I have more plans for it in the future

in my experience the gsi/ctr/xe corsa are all similar, depends on individual car and driver, had a play with loads of ctr's over the years and they all vary.
