Neo on here used to manage 180-220 miles to a full tank - 35 litres - 28MPG at the best of times.

No problem!
I'd doa full service, all the filters, plugs (maybe even leads) and the oil, flush the coolant system out, check for any fault codes (paperclip test) and replace any sensors that need replacing (if the CTS is naff it'll overfuel) and get some injector cleaner in the tank
The problem is mate, I'm obsessed with MPG.
Becuase I don't earn that much and don't want to spend every penny I earn on my car (I want to save for a house and buy myself clothes etc), it is a problem with a select few members for me to have an economical car.

same here, im a student i get £30 a week ema, and i get £100 a semester for petrol, which obviously doesnt get used for fuel, so i try to get every last mile out of it.
the 140 miles is treating the car nice aswell, i seem to get more miles the more i push the car :S

I edited my post for some solutions. All the parts listed will be very cheap on Halfords trade.
£10 for 5 litres of oil
£4 Oil Filter
£5 Air Filter
£5 Fuel Filer
£6 Spark Plugs
£10 Leads?
£8 for some injector cleaner - but, tbh, SPI only has one injector. Prehaps find a local company that can clean it for cheap - cash in hand?

As Pow said it really depends on the way you drive and the roads you drive on.
I get 200 miles for £20 petrol, that's on local roads, Although i drive a 1.0 Litre 12V Corsa.

i think im gonna treat the car to a service like, get all the seals, oil, filters, spark plugs etc change, i think the seals broke on something cos i asked a while back about a creamy substance around my oil cap and they sed check your water for oil ... which there is lol.
so i think it deserves a service!
cheers pow

@ 86.9p/l; using £20 worth of petrol means your using 23litres of fuel which is the equivalent of 5.06(UK)Gallons.
140/5.06 = 27.66mpg.
I used to get around 30mpg but that was normal driving (ie bit of foot down/bit of traffic/bit of not caring about mpg)
I'm now getting 42.6mpg average from a 150hp Audi A3 1.8T
