Had mine a while now and its flashing up everytime I turn it on now to say that my maps etc are more then one year old and out of date.

How do you go about updating them and does it cost?

Going to germany later this year so want to make sure its nice and up to date

you need a lead if you havent got one (same as most digital cameras) all updates are done though garmin.com, software updates are free, mapping i believe is around £50, but its worth considering how much the roads have changed since last year, which usually isnt much

Download garmin updater from garmin.com, then attach garmin to computer, usb to mini usb cable.

Then run the updater, it will download the free application and voice updates for you and get rid of the warning that your map is old.

Nice and easy to do, you can look at downloading the map as someone has suggested
BUT
Hacking a garmin nav is very very difficult as it uses an encrypted software unlock code and hardware unlock code. I've managed to safely "backup" a garmin program to my phone however the same procedure wouldn't work on a mobile navi.
