why do I picture him dreaming he can shrink himself and walk around his work shop...
It's a tad sad...
I think the finished thing will be quite cool, but the fact he keeps doing little updates where he has plastic men 'fitting parts' to the cars... it's a bit I can imagine him using it like a doll house, moving the little men about and acting out building the cars for hours each night.

Why did he put a roof on it
I just picture him lying down next to it when the roof is on, peering in and imagining that he's able to go inside and climb in one of the cars...
just like the spruce moose episode of the simpsons.
