had a knock friday morning. Asked the guy if we could do it outside insurance. He said fine he'd get a quote. It's come in at 1400quid which i think is abit extreme. Do i pay it. Or go through insurance loose my 2years no claims. Have to pay 500quid excess and the rest of my policy? I could get his price down alot as i've seen a door on ebay for his same colour. Dunno what to do really. Advice?

Either pay what he wants or go through insurance.
In this case probably through insurance.

Get some more quotes.. surely if you can get it down to £1000 it makes more sense to pay and avoid insurance

Doesn't matter how much he can get quotes for, the guy he hit got one for 1400 and that's where he'll want to take it.

he's been pretty good about it really he got 3 quotes all around that price just abit of a bummer.
going through insurance it will only cost me 500quid max including how much my insurance will go up. just a shamus really.

Not true.. IF He just wants his car fixed. IF he's trying to pull a fast one you'll never win so dont bother playing the game

I'd want my car to go where I wanted, not where you found the cheapest quote, that's not pulling a fast one.
He'll get his car fixed where he wants if its through the insurance.

You won't get your car fixed if you're tpft so don't have to pay excess, i think.

Who told you that? IMO Its wrong. Your insurance company are paying for the repairs to the third party, therefore you pay the excess on your policy.

Go through the insurance mate. Your insurance certainly isnt gonig to jump up £1400 without the 2yrs NCB.

i didnt pay anything when i hit another car, as i didnt have mine repaired through insurance, even though the other car was

well what about 3rd party they only pay out if you hit someone/thing else so does that mean everyone that is third party doesnt have a excess becuase there car cannot be repaired?

Only if its 3rd party liability and you go through the 3rd party.. If its your fault you have to cough up.. Thats the whole point of excess, it means in the event of low value accident the insurers dont have to pay out as you cover it

But the accident will be on your record fr 5 years, so will it in the five year time span cost you over 1500 quid? how old are you? what sort of car do you have? do you want to get something newer sooner? etc.

to be fair my insurance won't really change, and if i do pay out then the nob goes and claims any way i'd be super out of pocket. to be fair going through insurance i've protected and will cost me about 10percent of not

He only has 2yrs NCB, cant protect them until 4yrs or more mate.
Gazza808, unless your can afford the £1400 then just go through the insurance mate. Thats what it's there for.
