Went in 2005, loved the first two days.
Got hit by a hurricane on the third day and spent the last 11 days inside 
Still enjoyed it mind, watching a golf buggy fly made my trip

Ive been twice, 5wks in total.
First time I went outside the resort and was perfectly fine. Im not saying go and walk in the shanty towns on your own, but in general its not as bad as most make out.
