If a man mows the lawn in 1.5 hours
His wife mows the same lawn in 3 hours
If they both mow the lawn together how long will it take?
There is a genuine answer, not tricks about only 1 lawn mower etc
Any ideas?...... i got it

How i worked it out as 1hr
Split the garden into 3 pieces, the man takes half hour for each piece
Woman takes 1 hr for each piece
In 1 hour man has done 2 and woman the final 3rd

The man will have completed 2/3 after an hour and the woman will have completed 1/3.
2/3 + 1/3 = 1 Fully mowed lawn.

However the wording of the 'riddle' would suggest they don't have seperate lawn mowers and he'll be dragging his fat arsed wife about with him so it'll probably take 2 days if you take into account the bitch moaning etc...

How I worked it out was...
I replaced the Area (x) with a number... 10 (this can be anything though)
divided 10 by 1.5 = 0.666666667 (or 2/3) of the area per hour
divide 10 by 3 = 0.333333333 (1/3) of the area per hour.
Therefore in 1 hour ... they'll have mowed the whole lot.
but yeh our logic is the same.

To be honest though, why do they both need to mow the lawn together, when it's already been mowed TWICE

I was more trying to believe a woman would even mow a lawn And spend 3hrs on it ! Back inside doing the ironing and leave the difficult jobs to the men !

some answers are funny, the bloke could do it all himself in 1.5 hours so why on earth would it take him longer when he has help!

I figured it'd still take 3hrs if they did it together because he'd be sat chillin in a deck-chair suppin a few beers.

I would take longer than if just either of them did it. As he'd do the mowing, and she'd be stood there telling him he isnt doing it right.

if they did it together with only 1 mower then surely it depends who is using the mower
if the man has it:1.5 hours
if the woman has it 3 hours
cant see how it would be anyquicker :S

This was easy
If the guy can mow the lawn in 1.5 hours he mows 1/3 of the lawn every half hour.
The woman can mow the lawn in 3 hrs so she mows 1/3 of the lawn every hour.
If they both start at the same time, in 1 hour the guy will have done 2/3 of the lawn and in that hour the woman will have managed to mow the remaining 1/3
