Surely most modern phones can access the net? I'm positive my C902 can access the net the exact same way an iPhone can.

What do you mean?
The iphone doesn't get anymore proper internet than any other phone, i'd say less because it doesn't have flash.
E71 gets the internet and has flash.

Apple had to pull the advert saying the iphone had the whole internet because it was a lie.
Any recent smartphone will have as 'full' internet as any other.

The iPhone will never have the whole internet either, Apple wont let Adobe put a full mobile flash player on their phone where as other manufacturers probably will.
But if you look at some of the reviews quite a few people rate the Safari browser on the iPhone. I think it's really good too

My shit brick Nokia had the internet, admittedly GPRS but it was still the internet per say.
The iPhone is great for browsing because of the big screen, but that's about it.

nokia internet browser on any symbian Nokia (e, n series etc)
Blackberrys dont have the panache but are very capable too.
