Has anyone got any experience of doing this?

My xbox is currently flashed 1.2xtreme or something, and i want to upgrade it to 1.5 iextreme so that i can use my xbox on live

I get an error message when doing it, is this because it is already flashed?

Nope but would love to have it done but find it pointless since I have to send my Xbox back to Microshaft every 9-11 months due to RRoD.

Depends on the type of drive...

Some of the manufacturers require a downgrade back to orignal firmware before they can be upgraded again...

I wouldn't bother with 1.5 just yet... One of my mates tells me that newest games won't work on 1.5, and you'll need 1.51 when it's released in the next few days.

What model of drive do you have. I'll do my best help...

Using standard methods (slax and iprep?) you do have to restore to original firmware before newer update.

Just spoke to a friend, who tells me that there is a tool called Jungal flasher, which will do what you need without original firmware.

As stated though, wait for 1.51.

Just read somewhere that 1.6 is due out soon also

It is a mate that is doing it for me, here is what he's put

I am flashing my friends Samsung ms28 drive, I have done 2 other ms28's including my own, but was a long time ago

Anyway the console I am trying to flash has already been flashed with 1.2 xtreme firmware, I want to update it to 1.5 iXtreme.

So far I have read through all the tuts out there (old and new). tried following the latest tutorial on here, however remembered that my PC doesn boot from USB (lousey ABIT!), so I attempted to flash via NTFS4DOS. on my first attemot at reading/dumping the firmware (dSam), I got the error 'orig.bin is not 256kb, aborting!'. So instead of trying again i thought I would follow the latest tutorial, so I bought the PCI SATA card that i needed, installed it on my newer PC (can boot from USB), but that PC can't see the card so drivers weren't installing, so that was end of that. I decided to install the card into the other PC and go via NTFS4DOS, again. This time I tried, I got an error message that says:

'Invalid Opcode at ....... loads of numbers'

And it puts me back to my DOS prompt. Does this inicate a problem with the drive? Am I doing something wrong, do i have t do anything different when using NTFSDOS.

Yeah..

That makes sense. The method he is using does require the original firmware...

Inform him of the new one...

Also, just a side note, ABIT mobos will boot from USB, if you tell it to use floppy or zip drive as first boot device. No idea why, but it classes all removable storage as floppy / zip drives!

It's a shame they stopped trading. I like them...

Let me know how you get on. MS28 drives are a complete b*tch though...

Yeah wait for 1.51 or 1.6 as newer games comes with the Dashboard update to NXE which altered the disc structures, which in turn broke the flashed firmware checks for stealth discs. 1.51 should get around it but 1.6 adds 0800 feature to all drives within windows.

0800 allows you to use your xbox dvd drive within windows to dump games and burn to DVDR, usually this needs a KREON flashed drive.

Ive just sent my drive off yesterday to be flashed, im hoping the guy who flashes it waits and flashes it with the new firmware, otherwise it sounds like I wont be able to play the newest games.

Hey, Im interested in getting my xbox frigged, but i dont want to be banned from live, i searched the internet a few weeks ago and all i could tell from the long search i did is that you cant go on live with a frigged xbox. Am i right in saying that you can now get on live undetected ?, is so would someone be able to post details about going though with this ?, thankies.

You can do it, but it's only a matter of time before they catch you and ban your console...

Keeping your firmware up to date is the best way to avoid detection, but there is always a short period of time where MS detect the latest hack, before the next one is released.

It's not the hardest thing to do, and there are loads of guides around the net for doing it, but if you're unsure, pay someone to do it for you.

Most people are charging around £20-£25

I've not been detected yet but i've only been on live for about 4 months. Its worth flashing your drive then buying a 3 month gold subscription from that jasper guy then if you do get banned you've not lost 12 months. or get a silver accoutn which offers you 1 months free of GOLD and see how you go.
