Planning on going away in June 09, my old passport expired about a year ago but I cant find it anyway, can I just apply for a 'first adult passport'? The other one was originally taken out when I was still under 16, do I actually need to report it lost, as its no use to anyone anyway

My child one had expired, and I had to send it back to the passport office with my application for my first adult passport.
