So i've currently got an 8800GT.
It's been a great card, and i still get great quality on games like COD2 and 4 (these are pretty much the only two games i play tbh)
However, lets say i wanted to upgrade my card so that i could play the latest games (and maybe new ones for a year to come) on full settings. If money was no object (within reason)...what card should i buy?

There will be two PCIE slots on the card and you can get a connector for the wiring from the PSU. What PSU have you got?

Yeah, my problem (or one of them lol) is that I don’t like committing to buying one after simply reading reviews on the site I’m buying it from (eBuyer or what ever)
I like to get advice from people like you lot who seem more "real"

To add a second identical card to run in SLI you would need 2 pci-e slots.

I wouldnt go the next notch up on the car you already have (GT -> GTX) as you wont see much difference. Toms Hardware is a good place for unbiased reviews, they also have lots and lots of performance tests for you to read through

ATI 4870's are a good series card, the x2 if you can afford. I would recommend Sapphire.
ATIs are great value for money.
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 £147.
Thats a great price for a great card.

a few notches up...the gts is inbetween somewhere...
or you could pick up a 9600gt/9800gt for only a few quid more.

is > THIS < the board you have?
Personally i would get looking on a few review sites (tomshardware etc) and get on a few forums (overclockers.co.uk etc) and see what's what.
Although there is certainly no point in splashing out for the newest and greatest as it's worth naff all 6months later down the line.
It also might be worth looking at overclocker possibilities of the graphics card - it's what i did with my old Leadtek and my new BFG, with a new cooler and a little tweaking i've pushed both of these cards to a few models above them and getting similar perform for nearly half the price

Is this one to be exact - http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=709&l4=0&model=2428&modelmenu=1
I had a P5k to begin with, but i Pwned it with a Bios update (which was the fault of Asus). But, because the company i bought it off couldnt find another P5k, i had to settle for something else for the same value.
I'm not too sure how good this board it TBH...might change it out of my own money.

You could do as John says, overclock your current graphics card, and if you blow it up so what, you were willing to buy a new one anyway, although obvsiously any ebay resale value is gone from your knackered one
Every GFX card ive had in the past I have overclocked, my 9800XT I kept overclocked for the best part of 3 years, i only got rid of it because it started producing random errors and black specs on the screen, took a caining that card did
