Just kidding.

May 2008, buy first FD, a 1997 RS. Love the car and drive for a few days almost non-stop before returning to Germany with work.

Buy and fit Aerofiber (they're yanks, ignore the spelling) adjustable wing:

along with carbon fibre slimline sideskirts:

Result:

Also cleaned and tidied her up, added a nice HU with Sat Nav for good measure:

September 2008, collect car from Manchester, drive to Nurburgring, engine eats a side seal due to poor maintenance in a past life. Also fork out for brand new (well, recon) twins.

Took the car to a guy here who replaced some bearings to get me home, this was when we saw first signs of internal damage:

On the plus side, found out the RX7 is one of the easiest cars to take apart/work on/reassemble, ever:

Car does 1000miles and laps of Ring with poorly engine, but makes it to the Ferry with 2 litres of fuel and 2 mins to spare...

October 2008, drive car back to England for WGT to have a look at, engine out, engine scrapped.

November 2008, buy nearly new 13B RE, install, set up, get good power and happiness over Christmas period.

Also bought and fitted new rear diffuser:

And new leathers courtesy of Miss McLaughlin:

January 2009, car has trouble starting, about to take a drive to Scotland from Manchester, coolant buzzer comes on, but just once and goes after pulling over. No sign of any coolant loss, temps always under 85 degrees, doesn't miss a beat apart from starting. Makes it to Scotland, no problem, but develops fondness for big clouds on startup...

So back it goes to the garage, where it's diagnosed with a cracked front casting (another rare problem) - you can see it behind the pullies here:

...and this is how she looked when I last left her, with newly painted calipers:

Next up when I get back:

Replace rear bumper with mutilated rear foglight and welding burns for shiny new item:

to:

...and try to fit cruise control for the journey over here:

I don't believe it.

Literally as I've been typing this, dad's called, said he went out to the car and it's dumped all its coolant. I'm praying it's just a split pipe.

Fuck.

That's the guy I'm buying it from I have better taste.

Here's tonights problem, the hose off the header/filler has been squashed and popped. IC ducting has never been perfectly placed so that needs sorting asap.

Tiiiiiny hole:

It's come out at a fair rate and that's what's scared my old man tonight, lucky that he took pics and I spotted it, so we had some international RX7 mechanicing by phone just now

Been doing some ghetto bodgery...

I melted my throttle cable, so whilst it was parked up waiting for a new one to arrive, some massive German badger drove into it...

So I took it to a mate of a mate who does PDR, but it was too far beyond what can be taken out that way so had to be pulled out, leaving a nasty scar

Was annoying me, so today I rubbed it back:

...tidied it up and sprayed it. Not a perfect match but better than it was:

Not bad for a rattle can job, and if you ever have trouble getting hold of G3 to cut your paint back in, metal polish works too

Good read and nice job with the rattle can.

This car has cost some serious bucks

Did you manage to fit the rear diffuser in the end?

Yeah I really hope it all works out in May and I get the ones I'm after.

Just done some quick sums in my head, in about a year, including buying the thing, it's cost me about 15k.

But 15k for something that looks ace and will top 170 is still fairly good value in my book. You only live once!

This is very true...and in that context I salute you

You need to ditch off any holiday with Kirsty and come to the ring so jr can mount you.
