Just seeing what most people think is advisable or pointless really. Bought my car two years back and havnt changed the oil for a good few miles
Bad i know but im going to do it all myself as its easy and ive done it before.
The car - x16xe on 88,000 does alot of motorway miles so any hints / tips would be recomended.

What im thinking of doing:
Drain old oil
Remove old oil filter
Replace filter (not forgetting to oil the rubber seal)
Re-use old sump plug and washer
Refill with cheap oil
Run engine for a few miles
Allow to cool down a bit
Drain oil cheap oil
Replace filter with another new filter (oil seal)
Replace sump plug and washer with new ones this time
Refill with better oil

I just want to flush the engine through with some cheap oil before putting expensive oil in. Also which oil would be better suited to the millage/type of car 15w40 or 10w40?
Not looking for funny comments or useless spam just opinions and info

Cheers

firstly you missed running the car to warm the oil. no point draining cold oil it wont run oout the sump.

personally i cant see the point in the two oil changes, spend the £££ on one choice of oil and it will have all the good things in it to deal with what the engine can throw at it.
there is a lot of £££ that goes into oil research and development to make the consumers life easier.

10w40 should be fine in my opinion

Sorry, i would always warm it up first
I thought using the cheap oil would flush any remaining crap oil/sludge/minging stuff through before changing it. I wouldnt normally do two but this oil has properly had it and needs a good old flush through
Not even going to think about using an engine flush chemical as these can do bad things to old engines

if you want it fully flushed out get some engine flush from motor factors and run for day or so then do your engine oil change what ids a day going to do if you havent changed for a while mate
like said 10 w 40 should be fine dont forget to check rest of car over
and chang fuel and pollen filter as they need changing every couple of years just to get the car running a touch nicer thats my input anyway as its what i would do
finally if you not done brake fluid and antifreeze for 2-3 years they will need renewing too good luck

Engine flush can cause problems ie leaks with older cars.
My car is checked 4 times a year for problems/wear and tear.
Fuel filter/pollen filter and air con is coming up in 2 months.
Coolant was done with water pump and cambelt two months back.
Brake fluid is being done as soon as i can be arsed to get a mate to fit my 2.0l brake setup.
Thanks for the info tho, dont see how i forgot the oil change
Ive always used 10w40 but i have thought about using a 15w40 just dont know what difference it would make

Yeah, my gf doesnt seem to think so highly of it
Ive had no first hand experience with engine flush but i have heard alot of bad feedback for it so think ill play safe.
I was just thinking running pants oil in it for a few miles might clean it out a bit more then refill it with good stuff
