Rite basically about a year ago i part ex'd my 330 for what turned out to be a cloned audi TT. As soon as i found out i handed the car into the police etc as im an honest person. I managed to get my BMW tracker activated and finally after a month or so got it back, minus the stereo and a bit of damage.

As it is coming upto a year i was wondering what was happening to the TT; my dad said he has seem one very similar to mine in a local salvage lockup. I drove past today, stopped and had a look through and i am 99% sure it is that one as the spec and a mark on the passangers door that it had.

I think i was told that if stolen property is handed in, then after a year if it goes unclaimed it would go back to the person who handed it in. Does anyone else know, or experienced anything like this in the past?

The identity was proved as far as i am aware so no reason why it wouldnt. If that was the case tho surely it would have been crushed by now?!

Q plate doesnt bother me really, was a verry nice car with only 15K on ( i know this as took it to audi before the police to check, and they brought the chasis number up off the ecu and got the original details up on screen)

I dunno, theres a scrap yard near me used by the police, some cars have been sat for years, possibly still part of an ongoing case.

Did you get an incident No when you took it in? You could just phone & ask however I doubt they would tell you much.

Q plate is used for re-registered cars, E.g Kit Cars, Stolen and recovered.

youve actually got a good point there. it could be just one of the cars that has been done by these people so the case will go on for years, hence why it has not been disposed of.

however if its not then your right it should come back to you. if the true identity cannot be found then it should just be re registered and handed back to you.

My first S3 was a ringer, that was given back to the insurance company that originally paid out on it.
I had it delivered back to me to get my bits off it (wheels, brembos, exhaust, intercooler, recaros etc..)
then it went off to a local scrappy to be crushed.

It was going to be broken for bits by the scrappy but because we were both fighting over it the insurance company crushed it, with engine etc still in.
Unfortunately i lost about £8-9k on that car!
They can be put back on the road legaly but they must have a VIC and full inspection, if the original identity cannot be found it would go on a Q plate, if the original identity is known it will be put back on that plate.

Its a ball-ache of a position to be in tbh.

Its shit isnt it mate; i thought i was going to be £14K at one point; still a few £K down tho. As far as i am aware the cars identity was proven. But I dont understand why after almost a year it is still sat in a compound in Bath. I am going to pop to the police station one day this week to see what is happening

The police were absolutely useless with me, because the car was stolen it Derby and i bought it from Derby, but Shrewsbury police impounded it, it was just being thrown back and forth and nobody could be arsed with it.
However, the police examier bloke was really helpful, gave me alot of info and also his mobile number, said to call anytime etc.. was a nice bloke.

I got fed up with it in the end, figured a court case would get me knowere but more money down the pan so cut my losses and gave up with it.

Technically it belongs to the insurance company that paid out for it.

My S3 started off looking like this...

Police pulled me over and discovered this whilst standing on the roadside...

Car ended up back on my drive about 8month later, it then left looking like this... absolutely broke my heart, was horrible stripping a perfectly good £9,000 car and thinking the rest of it was being crushed, it was still in my eyes 'my car'

However i was told by the police at the time by the local officer that this is not always the case; and especially because i handed the car in i was in a strong position.

The police were useless with me to, crime to place in Glouster, i handed the car in Avon and somerset and my BMW was found in Birmingham. I even was still in contact with the bloke who as he was waiting for documents; in the end it took it into my own hands and set the tracker off!!! The police even caught someone in the car, but let them go and they moved on with no fwrding adress!!!

Even had the two cars photo'd together with time stamps etc and the bloke on CCTV!
