replace it.
When you say bad state what do you mean? Just the paint/finish has faded? Its rotting? Broken bits?

Belt sander, sand it down, replace nails/screws, paint and seal.
Look after it and it will last longer leave it and it'll get ruined.

Needs re-painting etc..
We didnt bother doing anything with it as it was winter when we moved in.
It's a horrid dark stain wood colour...
Would a high pressure jet washer move the paint off?

No. Chances are its preasure treated with the stain from the sawmill. Best chances would be to sand her down and re paint, Coming from a professional Landscaper

Why would you pressure wash wood stain off wood
A belt sander will be a good investment and get some sheets of sand paper. Depending on what finish you want depends on what grit. Be a nice little relaxing job for the summer
I like doing stuff like this, it's when the house is upside down decorating does my tits in.

Well the paint has already come off in parts, just needs a fresh coat tbh... i'd like to have a light stain rather than a dark one..
