Been working on this for a few weeks now... May look simple (and it is really), but sourcing parts were quite tricky and finding what to use and so on was even trickier.
Basically, it's mount to hold the camera still at the end of the pole. This allows you to push (or drive) the car whilst taking a photo. This produces pictures like these:
I'm yet to receive my Manfrotto Magic Arm and Manfrotto Super Clamp which clamps to the end of the pole, and allows you to adjust the camera into any position/angle you want. Once this arrives (hopefully Tuesday) it'll be ready to test and I'll have some sample pictures for you.
The pole is 3m long, this is being cut at 2m so I have 2m pole and a 1m pole:
This is at 10mm zoom, and I'm holding the camera near the end of the pole. I'll be able to go further back if needed:
As you an see in the background, I have another two poles that are 1m each. This means I can adjust it on-the-go it to 1m long, 2m long or 3m long. I kept the 2m pole so we can extend to 3m long with only one join to keep it stiff:
The suction mounts an also be adjusted on-the-go, and hold perfectly:
It's quite 'bouncy' at 3m but hopefully the camera will weigh it down and it'll be more secure. You only have to push the car at a walking speed to get the above effect if you have a long enough shutter speed.
Obviously the 'rig' will be in the photo, which means you have to Photoshop it out -- annoying, but no-way around it. It's the same methods you see in magazine shoots.
I can't wait to try it out!

whats the legalities of using something like this then?
surely the 3m pole would be too long to use on the public highway?

Dude, it'll be used in a car park being pushed at 2mph...
The above two shots were probably down some quiet lane also being pushed at 2mph.
In the top picture, you can see the bird pushing the car!

I hope you're good at photoshop. Thats a fair bit of rig to photoshop out.
Or will you just take another pic of the car at the same angle, but without the rig, then cut/paste the missing bits in?

It's not as much as you'd think. The camera will be supported 2ft below the bar, most of the cloning will be in the blurred background which you won't need to be neat with.

Had this done for my total vauxhall shoot.
Awesome results from it! Im sure the photographer that done my shot paid just over 1k for his rig!
Top work fella, well impressed.

Yeah man, they're well expensive! That's why I made my own, but I reckon I've spent £200 just on this and it looks like nothing! Admittedly most of that was for the Manfrotto gear but still...

I made one similar a while ago, just keep the camera strapped around your neck tbh, the suction pads even though they do seem to stick, they do come undone very now and then. (mine did and the camera fell to the floor . thankfully no damage lol.

Look forward to seeing the results from this - I love these sorts of shots. I don't have a clue how you P/S out the rig - I don't have much of a clue how to use P/S outside of resizing, changing colours etc - I'm easily impressed!

The online place I ordered it from sent me a dispatched e-mail saying it was sent to a different house number. It was closed before I could contact them, so I had to run up the road and check with the house owner but he seemed very dodgy. It hasn't been delivered yet from what I can tell, but I'm a tad worried. Fingers crossed it'll arrive at his tomorrow and he'll bring it round.
If so, expect pics tomorrow night (if they come out OK).

When i done my rig, I used those B&Q glass suction things and then clamped to my metal tripod
I should really try this again now i have my 10-20mm, 17mm wasn't quite wide enough for what I wanted.
It works better in lower light conditions as well, unless you get an NF filter

The top two were on the roof, and the bottom one was on the bonnet.
