Anyone else read about this yet??

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/april2009/pandp.html

From 15th June sellers listing in selected categories in Video Games, Mobile & Home Phones, Consumer Electronics, Computing, Photography, and Clothes, Shoes & Accessories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option.

I can see starting prices or reserves going up a few quid easily now... Aswell as ever-increasing BIN prices...

I know one thing, it will also fuck over sellers when scamming shites try it on saying they haven't recieved anything... Free P&P = no more recorded delivery and no comeback for sellers if this is the case...

All I'm doing is buying now, I've completely given up selling...

Even then, its not that much cheaper (if only a few quid including the p&p) than buying new now aswell...

Or.....When your mate bids the listing up for you, you just get them to go an extra few £

Im more a buyer than a seller on eBay so i think this is a good idea.

It's not really a good idea, it'll all even out.

The cynic in me would say that ebay is doing this to combat people dodging fees by using high postage costs, they are about to cut off their nose to spite their face though.

Yep, just means people will add a bit extra onto the price of the item.

even if people do recoup their fees by bumping postage etc, ebay still gets there money from the final sale price and paypal, wheres the problem?

having to offer free p&p is rediculous, they recently made it free to list anything for 99p or less as starting bid, who is going to start at that price then when p&p has to be free? considering the fees and then to pay to post the item also

seems like it wont be much of an auction site for long, and i can see people listing the stuff for the price they want instead of an actual auction

That's how I see it too TBH.. lots of people offering low price items but then sticking a huge postage cost to make up the profit... they attract the customers by looking to be the cheapest deal... and also avoid the higher eBay fees. I can see why eBay are doing it, but I think it sucks for people trying to sell. eBay are becoming a bit of a monopoly if not already I think. BOYCOT!!

I dont think the P&P counts towards the final sale value fee?

no i know bud, but they take their cut from the final sale, so why should people have to offer free p&p when its going to cost them to post?

thats what i meant anyway, along those lines

Never seen it as one tbh. Yes essentially it started as one but if you think I'd sell a £200 mobile for £50 because no-one has bidded or I've fucked up the auction then no chance. I've always listed items for the absolute minimum I'll take with a slightly higher BIN price for the impatient people like me that can't wait 10 days for something to end

ebay dont take a % of the P&P thats why most sellers sell the item for 99p and charge £5 postage ebay can only take .5% of the 99p

until now
