I've read the dvla stuff but they haven't really answered my question.
I'm waiting for the log book to come back on a new car whilst the car with the reg on has died (mechanically not written off) Can I start stripping off the bit etc before I do the reg transfer? Keep reading about they can inspect the car, but not sure what they would inspect it for?
I'm sorted tax wise and clear on that, just I could do with getting it stripped and gone ASAP. anyone any experience or knowledge on the subject?

is that what they check then if they do ask to see the vehicle? It has an MOT and Tax but it now doesn't run.

Aslong as its got an MOT you can get it put on retention, or on another car.
Edit: As for checking the car, I've never heard of that, my dads changed his plate about 10 times and they've never checked the car.

it is one of the "conditions for transferring or retaining a vehicle registration number"
The vehicle must be available for inspection.
As said, haven't a clue why and that is why I am reluctant to start stripping it.

What if the car is written off from engine problems? Do you lose the plate?
Genuine question btw

If it goes through insurance you have to sort it out with them, if they scrap it it has gone.
