Last night I slipped on a wet floor and broke my fall with my right hand. It sorta twisted / bent in a weird way...

When I got up my wrist was painful, but I walked off anyway thinking it'd pass.

Now everytime I grab anything heavy with my right hand it aches and if i move my wrist around it clicks. However, it's not swollen and I'm not in agony, I'm just in slight pain until I try to lift anything with my right hand.

Anyone done similar before? what do you think it could be? just sprained wrist? (do you get these?) - I don't want to go to A & E because i don't think it's broken, if it was broken it'd be far more painful and swollen right up.

Just wondering if anyone has ever fractured their wrist slightly (like hairline fracture) and what it felt like? or if they've sprained their wrist before and whether it's like this and how long it took to heal?

Just don't want to do long term damage if i've done something more serious, but in my previous experience of breaking bones, they usually are a lot more painful

If it was a break i would assume you'd have swelling, however it's worth getting the wrist checked out anyways

I've broken my wrist and spent a whole day putting up with the pain thinking it wasn't broken.

It was broken.

I did something similar a week or two ago. It's still clicking but the pain has gone

I'm sure you'll be alright, just go easy with it

this is what concerns me

I know my mate at uni got a fractured wrist and continued on a night out with it shit maybe i should get it checked out. John, out of interest, when they told you it was broken what did they do?

just put a brace on it and tell you to take it easy for 2 weeks? or did they do anything else?

if it was broken id imagine you wouldnt be able to make it click by moving it?

Probably just a sprain. If it really hurts maybe you bruised your bone?

On that occasion from what I remember they pulled it into place and stuck a stookie on it and that was it.

I've broken that arm 4 times

yeh but my concern is, I've fractured it. So the click is the split of the bone clicking when i move it about.

I broke my middle finger into 4 seperate pieces when younger, just shattered it into bits and that was sooooo painful.

Just don't understand why a sprain would make the wrist click? it also hurts when I go from open fist to closed fist. Problem is, I need to use my right hand for my job to type code and drive to and from work.

John you must of been in agony though?

Needs an X-Ray tbh for definitive diagnosis.

A&E would be your best bet.

As already alluded to could be sprain, minor fracture or larger fracture. If it is fractured it should be supported (not necessarily cast). Bone Healing takes 6 weeks on average.

a sprain could take longer than a break to heal

Exactly!

I've been there several times with broken bones / issues and on average I've waited for ever. It's not the wasting time thats the issue, its the fact I've got work early tommorrow and can't be arsed to be tired for it.

I think i may still have a wrist support from when I broke my finger when i was younger.

I fell hard whilst snowboarding in January a week through a 2 week holiday. Was adament that it was broken as I couldn't grab anything and everytime I put pressure on I was in agony. Got back to England and had it scanned but not broken, was told it was a bad sprain and had a reinforced support for 2 weeks. Still not back to full strength now!

I did something to my left wrist when i was decorating 2 months ago. It's still causing me problems now. Aches when changing gear

Appears to be getting better with time though.

Tbh, i'd feel a bit of a cunt going the hospital to find nothing was wrong. I put off feeling like shit all the time for 6 months before seeing a doctor. My mum forced me to go in the end and found the issue to be high blood presure. While there, found to be somewhat under weight.
