In the early Astra GTE engine, what gearbox did they use?
...and what's the best gearbox to change it to and why? Mainly being used at Brands Hatch but prefer acceleration over top speed. Can anyone please explain the differences?

Depends on the ratio's you want, top end speed, acceleration, bit of both.
Mine is a F20 with a F18W final drive, in theory i should have nice quick acceleration, then when i stick it in 5th, it should be a long ratio, giving me a better top speed.
But i've not tried it yet 
A mate was running a F18S, but found it topped out at around 105mph, which wasnt enough for him, acelleration was pretty damn good, but found he was changing gear too much.
Sure theres a list of boxes somewhere with the ratios on, buggered if i can remember where.

It should be stamped on there dude, on the removable end plate.
But yeh, F20 is the usual one to go for.

All C20XE's came fitted with an F20 from factory so assuming its not been changed then itl be an F20.
And yeah,stick with an F20.

I used an F16 when i had mine and I'd say get an F20.
F16 is marginally better for acceleration but the F20 would be the best choice.

Nope; the 'late' XEs (dizzyless ones) from the late astra gsis came with an F18
