Decided the RC build was about time to get it on my main system, been using it for a couple of days now.
From what i've been reading the RC is just about final code unless there are any major bugs found.
First thing I managed to do was get messenger to behave like it normally does and minimize to system tray instead of hanging about the new taskbar like any other open program, all you have to do is set messenger to run in compatability mode for vista.
Build seems stable for my usual usage, msn and internet, some photoshop, office etc.
WMP playing my HD video files fine with no issues.
I'm happy with it so far but it really is just an update to vista, not much has changed.
There's no speed difference on my desktop from vista, i've got it on my laptop that's only got a gig of ram so i'll play about more on that.
A nice feature that will be out soon is a virtual xp environment for legacy apps but it needs a processor that supports hardware virtualisation.
In conclusion, nice, not that different from Vista, don't know why people are saying it's what vista should have been unless they've been running on antiquated hardware.

Been using this on my main PC since 7077 leaked.
Very impressed with the new taskbar and other little tweaks. Have turned Homegroups off as it seems to interfere with file sharing with older versions of Windows.
It's considerably faster than Vista on my machine, but it's 3 or so years old now.
I like that Media Center now supports Xvid, Divx etc natively, even on extenders like the 360 so no more need for Transcode360.

are you guys using an evaluation build or is it cracked not to expire?
It does sound good.
But having to reinstall in a month or so is likely to be a pain in the ass

Yip using my beta key, just got impatient because I wanted a format.
Should be on MSDN and technet tomorrow and public on the 5th.
It's just the beta key i'm using, I think it's the build and not the key that determines when it's valid to.
I'll have upgraded before August anyway so i'll never find out.

I'm using 7100 now, with the key that they gave me when I originally registered for the beta.
The RC activates with any beta key, which removes the 30 day evaluation period and the key is valid 'til next year some time.

It's the 64 bit one i've been running, ogt the 32 bit on the laptop.
Another good thing was that I didn't have to install any drivers on my desktop at all and the laptop it had the majority of the drivers, including wireless network and then got the rest of them from windows update itself.

Hey,
Yeh i installed it when 7077 was released.
I got a new netbook with 1.6ghz and 1gb ram and xp ran like crap on it.
Installed 7 and its spot on. Much faster and aero is very nice touch. I also installed vista as a bit of a test in speed and 7 runs sooo much smoother.Feels xp ish in that way.
Will deffo be buying when released.

I had to install the ethernet card drivers myself, but after that they all came down from Windows Update, including updated ethernet drivers.

Windows 7 RC crashes on my Dell PC all the time. Tried both the x86 and x64 versions. Got it running alright on VMWare until either the final release or i get another box.
Service Pack 2 for Vista is released tomorrow for those who are intrested.

The RC has only been available on torrents for about 2 days, you sure you've got that and not a previous build.

We're Gold Partners John, hence had it available to download on Monday.
I just pulled it off one of the servers.
Not sure how it all works tbh, but the boss was pretty happy with my qualifications

Took me 5 weeks after coming out of my old place. Got a really good reference from my old place and had 18 months experience.

I've been using it since Jan-ish, so it's the beta build that runs out in August (some time before then I'll get RC1)
It's pretty good and IMO is it everything Vista should have been, case in point is UAC, I haven't turned it off on 7 and it doesn't bother, whereas with Vista it's 5 minutes before it's annoying.
It's miles faster too on lower specced machines. At first I ran it using Virtual Box with a Vista machine as the host and allowed it only 512Mb RAM, still ran like a dream! Vista would die if I tried that.
There's still some minor bugs with it, but it looks like it'll be a real upgrade option from XP.

A feature in 7 is the desktops can go through a slideshow of whatever background theme you have chosen.
Changed mine the other day to a new one and have only seen a couple of the backgrounds.
Just minimized IE to be greated by a new one and it surprised me for some reason.
Though it looked quite good.

Windows 7 Virtual XP mode is also great imo, incredibly fast too.
I have a USB-serial adapter which will only work in XP so its a great feature imo.

I've not tried the xp mode yet, I have got a vmware install running though and a test network inside it and i've been really impressed with the speed, not sure if that's 7 related or not though.
