when i do them i extend 3 parts of the linkage to make them work correctly, i extend the c shaped hooh piece by 1inch, the top plastic (left to right) piece 1 inch, and i also extend the bar the connects the linkage to the selector shaft an inch aswell,
All the bits with a yellow arrow on need to be extended an inch

When I did my linkage I bought some M6 or M8 threaded bar, I got mine from screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/prods/65562/Fixings/Injection-Fixing/Steel-Threaded-Rods-M8-x-300mm-Pack-of-5?cm_re=SEARCHPROMO-_-THREADED%20BAR-_-65562.
I cut the bar to size and used 2 of these http://www.directindustry.com/prod/mbo-osswald/angle-joint-15621-37112.html on the ends. Job jobbed

I bought my ends from here http://www.mse-performance.com/acatalog/Non_Stressed_Linkage_Ball_Joints___Parts.html and I think i used M6. The ends need to be RH by the way unless you get LH threaded bar.

wat i did with the plastic bar was,
cut it in the middle,
get 2 strips of metal about 3"by 1/2"
place at the side of the plastics bit cut but with a 1" gap and drill 2 holes on each plastic piece and through the metal and tighten it up with some nut and bolts

not just get a longer metal top bar off a nova from the scrap yard?
ps, in torsa g's post with pics, the 2nd pic down looks to me like a nova linkage. i can remember doing that on a nova years ago, i swear the corsa end that connects to the gearbox isnt like that.

I got mine professionally Tig'd by a local welder for £10. I also got him to shorten the part that connects to the selector housing so it doesn't foul the steering rack.
He did an ace job and my linkage lined up spot on first time and all gears select perfect.
