Which proves the writers have more brains than the players! It also shows what a joke the vote is when done so far before the end of the season.
Giggs came second and Vidic 3rd. Ronaldo got 3 votes.....

I cant understand everyone's beef with the PFA Player thngy. Its not all about picking the best player with an award like that. When we do Players Player at our Sunday League Club not a lot of us pick the "best" player.
We normally have someone win it who has put in 100% everyweek, performed contsantly to the best of his ability (even if that isn't the greatest) and basically had an overbearing effect on the team.
Maybe this time round Giggs got the award for all of the above, for showing his services to Football in general. Doesn't mean they though he was the "best" player so to speak.
Also, as its called Player of the YEAR, does it not run from Jan-Dec, so includes the back end of last season, or is that me just dreaming that up

In that case, surely someone (for example Kuyt, but Im sure every team has one) deserves it more than Giggs - as they gave just as much effort for twice or three times as many games this season (and end of last?).
Its not a 'Services to Football' award, its a Player of the Year award. Giggs neither wins it on quality, or effort, this year above anyone else.

I reckon if Sami Hyppia won it, then it would have been ok

liverpool should have won everything really, bloody disgrace they havent, perhaps the fa and uefa will make up some new rule to give them the trophies, as the trophies should afterall go to the best team, which without a shadow of a doubt has been liverpool.

I'd much rather with Players player of the year off my peers than Football Writer's/set of knob jockies. I bet Gerrard couldn't give a flying about that award.

Nah, I think its seen as a fairly high award by the players (not just this season as he has won it but for a while now) - going by the comments Ive read over previous years anyway.

the players award is definitely more highly thought of than the writers award amongst the players

Oh I dont doubt that, but think the writer's award is seen as a fairly prestigious award also rather than a bit of a joke.

yeah i dont think any player would turn their nose up at it, any individual award would be nice to win, just the players one above the writers out of the two
