My mates got one of those, and I've borrowed it a couple of times.
I'm not hugely into photography but found it very easy to use and the clarity of the images compared to anything else I've used before was spot on.

Get on TalkPhotography for loads of tips and inspiration. Try shooting in either shutter priority or aperture priority mode to begin with. The lower the f-stop the wider the shutter, and hence more light into the camera. Lowering the f-stop also makes the background blurred, using a higher f-stop will create a greater range of focus. Hope this is all understandable, I've tried to put it in simple terms! Other than that, as others have said get out there and get practicing!

Go on YouTube and look at some beginners tips. I wish I did when I first started with a SLR.
