is there a way of strengthening B Pillars to prevent them cracking?

Yes cut the whole setion out then weld it a strengthening plate then weld first section back in or something like that. Phone vauxhall, thats what they were doing under the warranty guidlines.

dont think vauxhall would willing touvh it now.
i rung up 18months ago. they wanted £600 to put the 2 plates in from a later 1/4 panel and paint!
so going to do it myself when do bodywork on my gsi

i'm sure i read somewhere that the post 97 models were better, mine is 1999 and it's fine on the b pillars.

pre face lift (97) were prone to cracking
post (97) they were strengthened so wernt so prone to going..

My 1997 1.2 cracked but my 1999 sport doesnt. First the paint goes orange just in the crease of the pillar half way down then the crack comes through the paint and there you go you have an m.o.t failure

Will sort it out eventually as it nearly cost me an MOT last year.

never had a problem with mine failing on it you just need to grind the paintwork off and grind into the crack a bit and then fill it with weld

the best way to stop it happening is to, drill 2 x 6mm hole above and below put a plate behind it ( access via taking the rear door card of) then puddle weld it in and you should be sorted

never had a failure for it in the past, my 95 gsi didnt have it and my 97sport doesnt have it yet my 99 sxi cracked lol

all this about its only the pre 97's that were prone to it makes me chuckle
ive had a '99 Vreg that had a crack on the b pillar, a '98 Sreg that had a crack there and now i have a '99 Treg which also has a crack on the b pillar

pre 97s were prone to it, no one said post 97s dont crack because they do, just less often.

my old corsa was cracked nrly 27mm wen i got it they can fail mot for it but vosa guidlines are sumthing like no bigger than a 10 mm crack
