Whenever someone in a shop asked for my name I always use my surname. It's what my dad does so it's what I do.

What name is it?

'Griffiths'.

Thank you Mr Griffiths.

However most people I know just use their first name. Just phoned for an MOT and the lad clearly was confused in to thinking Griffiths was my first name.

Which do you prefer?

I always use first name.

I'm on the phones at work at the moment actually and nearly all give a first name when asked.

I allways say my last name, allways have, don't really have a reason though. It's like when you order a taxi, you allways say your last name.

i use either but with my surname being Rider i get all sorts of funny people coming up with jokes that i've never heard before in my life. therefore i favour using my first name unless it's feels wrong.

Always use surname, i admit i know more Davies' that arent family than i do Pete/Peter's but that is how things should be, booking taxi liek Danny or a table in a resturant, or a hotel room, always surname!

Either really depends where im calling, if its to reserve a table or the more important kind of things it will be my surname. however if im ordering a pizza it tends to be my first name

Depends on the situation, sometimes saying your surname makes you look like a stuck up cunt.

I prefer Fraser in the hospital. And Introduce myself as such.

Though at least half of people then assume that's my surname, i.e. Dr. Fraser.

edit; though when being a bit of a dick and booking restaurant tables or airline upgrades etc I am very much Dr. Young.

Prefer my first name as my last name seems to always get interpreted as pencock not pennock and I always have to spell it
