Hey!
Wonder if anybody can help. I accidently put diesel into my petrol car and now it obviously wont run. Is there any way you can wire up/overide the fuel pump to get the diesel out instead of either trying to syphon it out or taking it to a garage to get it done? or what other ways are there?

I have no idea, you should be able to drain it somehow but here is a nice pic to cheer you up

ya it drove for a bit after filling up but that was cos there was lil petrol in, so it could run. now it wont even start, too much diesel

ones worse than the other, petrol into diesel or diesel into petrol, can't remember though.

I thought petrol into diesel was the worst because it melts the liners!?
How much diesel is in it? If not too much fill it to the brim with petrol, turn the engine by hand for a bit then start it & take it for a long drive. Im sure I seen that done in a film once

yeah it might be fine, think it has something to do with the higher temps of a diesel engine.
probably be a bit smokey for a while though

if theres not a lot in fill with petrol and hope its fine,,, if not syphon the diesel out, clear out the fuel filter, fill with petrol and hope it starts

We get them in all the time at work mate, normally about 2-6 fuel contams a week, nothing to worry about, diesel into a petrol shouldnt do any harm, and most diesels with petrol in seem to survive providing they havnt run too long, usual script is to get a electronic pump and pipe it up to the fuel pipe which feeds out from the tank, drain it all by pumping it through, hopefully should get it all out the system, new fuel and some petrol additive and should be fine. handy little earner for the garage, usually sets the customer back around £200 with the recovery back, expensive mistake, had one bloke do it on the saturday, then again on the sunday lol.

We gte them all the time. Usually know its afuel contamination because they all cut out on the same stretch of duel carriageway.
We drain them as an extra service and I've never had one come back and I've done al ot of them.

Petrol in a diesel is a problem because diesel normally lubricates parts, not because of the temperature petrol burns at.

What people used to do on shitty old diesels when this happened was put some engine oil in the fuel, worked suprisingly.

it was a 51 plate corsa 1.7 dti. drove about 5 miles.

talking from a technicians point of view.
peterol in diesel = (new car) damaged fuel pump as it melts the rubber o rings in it, also can perrish the fuel lines and cause damage to injectors / (old car) does fuck all to apart from makes it run shit.
what car is it first off, then secondly your best bet is to get yourself down to a garage where they have a propper decam kit which will suck the fuel out the tank and then bleed the fuel lines..
tip for the wise.. diesel is on the black pump, peterol is on the green one.....

If you've tried to turn the engine on, I've no idea.
If not, syphon out the diesel. You might not be able to get the syphon pipe down the filler neck, but getting the fuel pump off and out the way is a simple job. Just push off the lock ring and list everything out the way, then stick you syphon tube in there and get draining!
