5th gear went kaboom tonight

bloody car!

BUT on the plus side I have a F18CR box sat in my garage which has the same ratio 5th gear as my F20. Oh the joys of conversion cars

Well I hope its 5th gear that has gone, there is nothing there when I select it and a lovely rattle from the gearbox

with a LET engine? It would be easier to swap the whole cluster but im unsure if it will make even less reliable than the f20 is bolted to a let

Id try get hold of another F20(if thats what it was running b4 it went bang)as im sure the ratios on an F18 are longer than an F20.My mate has a V6 Astravan fitted with an F18 and it goes 4ever in each gear.Far too long compared to my old Mk3 Gsi V6 with F20.

f18 isn;t the same as the f18cr

My let would go off the clock very quickly with the f18cr (on private land)

Good fun, but in the long run it wouldn;t be any less reliable than an f20

If your looking for reliability get the correct 'box for the engine, f28

F18cr has near enough the same ratios as an F20.Itl only take more torque.

F18WR is different.(probably whats fitted to my mates V6 Astravan)

F20/F18cr with an F18WR 5th gear would be an ideal box/conversion.

I started back in work today 8:30 - 5:30, found a box in a local scrappy for £90 which is going to be collected tomorrow. Alex, if you fancy lending a hand, I would be very apreiciative and we can start tomorrow night

There is this mod you can do to the F20

Apparently this is the 3rd F20 box this car has munched now, I was speaking to the previous owner and its done exactly the same thing that it did to him. Only difference was I was giving it death at the time and he wasnt (apparently)

As i said above,an F20 with an F18WR 5th gear would give the same acceleration in gears 1-4,then a long 5th gear for a higher top end.
