well first impression was i cant read anything easily. only just clicked on it and havent gone any futher yet.
edit: personally i think
1) cant read anything on there
2) the main title needs to be a & instead of and (also include spaces between them)
3) gallery looks a bit plain with it being all white.
4) unless you are putting more info in the contact section id personally have that on the about page as it looks a bit of a waste having an entire page just for an email address. (and while on the subject, make the email link clickable so that it goes straight to a new email so they can just start typing if that makes sense)

I like the clean look but i'd make the light grey text a bit darker, it's slightly difficult to read.
The work section shows up in box in the middle of my screen and I have tto scroll inside the box, possibly make that scale to resolution.

Shows up like that when it could all fit on screen at the same time if the box scaled to higher resolutions.

Jesus why isnt it centered? It goes weird on other browsers.

It is centered sorry, that's just the section i took, i've got 1920x1080 and CS resizes it far too small to show what I mean.

Ah ok thats cool. Im making it all a bit larger for the sake of it. On my browser that pretty much fills the screen.

That's a bit better to read.
I think the expanses of white at the sides on my monitor are making it look worse as well, on smaller resolutions it probaly looks even better.

IMO its just way too plain. It lacks any sort of containers to divide the content and theres nothing to catch the eye!

Can fit a whole picture in one go now

I am thinking of putting colour down either side. What would be the best way, a html background plane, or make an image and fill the background, this would be effected by browser resolutions though.

still way too plain for my liking?
For a 'Designer' id expect to see something modern, different, something that stands out?
My misses does design work on the side (outside of her normal job) and has this website:
http://cupcakecreative.co.uk which is my no means a professional website. but its got a good feel to it, its definatly different.

It looks sleek an elegant. Maybe you could use put a shadow and a fine outline on the central container to lift it off the background?

Good idea il give it a go
I understand it is boring and plain, but its purely a portfolio website when I get round to actually putting some work on there. I am building other websites on the side that will have that edge to them.

Plain and simple is as hard to pull off as a fancy one.

I think I can see the look you're going for. It's the kind of thing I like, and as John has said, simple design is hard to get right. Good start though
