DUBAI, June 21 (Reuters) - A member of a ruling family in the United Arab Emirates has bought a majority stake in an English Premier League soccer club, the official WAM news agency reported on Sunday.
WAM did not name the club but said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi has bought 60 percent of it, adding that details would be announced in a few days.
Sheikh Ahmed, a member of the ruling family Ras al-Khaimah, will be honorary chairman of the club.
Ras al-Khaimah is one of seven members in the UAE federation which also includes key oil producer Abu Dhabi and regional trade and tourism hub Dubai.
Last year Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Masnour bin Zayed al Nahyan bought Premier League club Manchester City, while Portsmouth is the subject of a bid from another Abu Dhabi investor, Sulaiman al-Fahim.
Any ideas who its going to be?!?!??!

A few reports state its a leading team, others just say team.
My money is on either Pompey (most likely), Everton (second choice) or maybe even us (doubt it).

Could easily be us, we've been up for sale for the last 18months.
Gillett selling his stake in his NHL teams means nothing, as both would need to pump money in to the club to get the refinancing and both dont have it!

only time will tell... one advantage to it being an unnamed club is that the club wont be held to ransom over transfers

Im glad you corrected yourself before I saw that!
The problem is, he bought it using loans so he isnt really making that much cash at the end of the day, and even if he did find the cash he has to hope Hicks also finds it for his half.

It might be, but I was under the impression the potential buyers wouldn't settle for anything less than a full takeover of Pompey?
Plus there has been rumours being banded about for weeks about Niall Quinn having some new partners.

The bit that gets me is the 'leading' part thats in some of the reports.
That to me means top 5 or 6 at most - so Everton must be favs if thats to be believed.

I'm thinking Pompey too.
The leading comment could be misleading. Although that could include the likes of Villa and Everton.

Wont be Villa.
Anyway, the guy is 91 and the bit of UAE he rules is tiny (300k population) and has no oil, so he probably has fuck all money!

All we need is a 3rd partner who has no money With what the yanks want for their shares I can safely say only a rich man can buy us.
IMO its Pompey. That fake Doc needs someone in with him to buy them so expect he has called on some small time Sheik.

No, Pompey havent been sold yet.
This guy doesnt appear rich enough (he could well surprise me) to pump the sort of money in you'd need to make you win things.
