You need to go to University to get a degree in Pharmacy. At my uni you start straight away on a Masters course which takes 4 years.

Most do A-levels, then degree in pharmacy. A-level wise, talking biology, chemistry and maths probally

Be warned, to earn anything decent being a pharmacist, you have to work long hours in 'not so good' areas. Hence why my dad leaves at 7 in the morning and doesn't get home till 8 most days. Although he was headhunted so only works 4 days a week now

There is another way, where you don't quite become a pharmacist. And that's doing training in the chemist itself becoming a Health Care Advisor then Dispensing Technician and so on. There are more levels than that though. My girlfriend was doing it and progressing quite well. Lloyds Pharmacy have good training schemes in place.

Dispenser, same as being a normal shop worker, but more responsibility and not much more money. My mum is trained as one, but doesn't work as one

You can't be a pharmacist.

You need a pharmacy degree.

Dispensing is a totally different thing.

My girlfriend works in a pharmacy, from what i've heard the pharmacists are minted and they don't work either bad hours or in a bad area.

How can people say its decent hours? Most have to work 9-6 minimum, since all the new legislation where the pharmacies have to sign contracts agreeing to open set hours, pharmacists are working longer hours than ever!

I wish!

I did A Level maths, chemistry, physics and DT. The conventional choices are maths/biology/chemistry though. You're looking at AAB/ABB to get into the top universities, probably get into one of the newer schools that teach pharmacy with BBB or BBC.

At the moment it's a 4 year full time degree followed by one year practice under supervision and a final registration exam. There is talk of the course going to 5 years though and integrating the supervised practice within the degree (more money for the universities).

Being a dispensing technician is nowhere near the same - on full time hours, they earn about half as much because they have no legal responsibility for their work.

My mum makes and sells drugs

Apparently if bird flu kicked off a while back our family would of been the first in the country to get it as my mum was one of the 8 people working on/with the vaccine in her company

yer its not an easy course but worth it. I have been talking to some of the pre regs at work as I am considering doing it as I could miss the first year as I am already a qualified pharmacy yec and have the correct a levels.

Big commitment but if you like it you will earn good money and always be in work. I earn the same as the basic grade pharmasists at the hospital but I am near the top of my ladder and they are at the bottom and can move on a long way from there.
