I've never given blood and probably should of done by now, if not from the moral side of it, just out of interest to find out my blood type.

Also, my missus is a carrier of Haemophilia, so her blood doesn't clot too well, and if she ever got in an accident she would need a transfusion, i'd like to know my blood type just incase for that.

Hopefully going to walk down to somewhere on thursday, few questions though.

I assume that driving after it is out of the question. Also, is there anything regarding alcohol, e.g. not for 2 days before or something? Did the little thing on the blood website and it didn't say anything about alcohol

I give blood and i've never been told not to drive.

You replace a pint quite quickly.

I do it regulary and would recommend it.

The only thing they advise after giving blood is not doing anything to extreme aftwards such as sports.

No issue's with alcohol - you may just get drunk ever slightly quicker.

You will not be eligible to donate blood if you have consumed alcohol 48 hours before donation. If you choose to consume alcohol, you can on the next day after your donation. Alcohol is a diuretic so will dehydrate you, which is not a good idea after donating blood! As for driving- donating blood is not dangerous, but driving is, and you could be seriously injured if you faint while driving. If you are not well after your donation, call someone to come pick you up. I personally don't drive after donating but some people I know do drive but only short journeys ie: to and from the donation and that's it.

Good on you though for wanting to donate btw

It'd only be a 20-30 mins walk, other side of town, so I guess I could manage that, can probably get a bus back if I needed anyway, i'll see how I feel on thursday, have the day off, so no excuse really!

I've done it loads, and I drive back every time. They advise you sit down for 10 minutes, and if you feel fine, off you go.
They've never stopped me due to drinking the night before either, just the usual questions.

Say who?

I've given blood 18 times now, and i'd say more than 10 of those times i've still been drunk from the night before. They have never mentioned alcohol before. Ever.

I've booked in and just turned up.

I should imagine that they will accept you whichever one you do go to. They will turn you away though if you turn up to late...

Why would they reply? I'm just being silly today.

I have CS AIDS so I can't give blood.

I can't give blood, because I am not British. Although I've lived here for almost 8 years, how rubbish.

I'm English, I have Ukraine blood in me. Grandad was born to Ukrainian parents who came over here during the war.
