Anyone done/doing a flat/house share with randoms?
I'm starting a new job soon which is an hours commute away. I'm considering getting a flat share with some randoms closer to the office.
Anyone done this before? Any thoughts?

I have never done this and wouldn't even consider it. I can imagine it being similar to living like a student - sharing fridge etc.
I would sooner commute and have my own place than live closer the office and share.
Thats exactly the dilemma I had.

I'm not sure - I agree it will be similar to living like a student.
But a lot of aspects of living like a student are fun.
Living with people a similar age, a chance to meet new people, good social aspect etc

Yeah the social aspect is the positive side. I just think still living like a student in your late twenties might get a bit boring.
I like the fact I can watch whatever I want to watch on my big tv... can shower whenever I want to shower... etc etc...
I like my own company most the time!

Yeh well i'm only 24, so not so bad for me.
Plus i'm still living with my parents, so it will be an improvement.

Clapham, mainly because I can easily get to friends and family back in Surrey (20 mins on the train to where I'm from).

£660 a month for a room, not including any bills or c/tax  Christ
After doing the flat/house share thing for 3 years I definetly wouldnt do it again

I agree it's not a solution for life, more until I can afford my own place.

You cant judge people on first glance. If you were to go for a viewing they might seem perfect, but when they are there with you for 8/9 hours of the day you realise what a pain in the arse people can be. I always have / always will prefer my own space

Clapham was the exact place I was looking at too. I would say move there only if you enjoy the company of Aussies and Kiwis as the place is crawling with them.

I am not sure for flatshare as I have always signed my own Tenancy Agreement. Most are 12 months to be honest as is my current one is but I had a clause inserted that I could terminate the agreement upon 2 months notice after the first 6 months. The Landlord will probably have individual agreements for each of the rooms with the living rooms and bathrooms being classed as communal areas so you may get a 6 month tenancy but can see it being 12 months.

Might be different in the City mate, you could find a genuine person who just wants to get on with their life and work with a steady mrs.....
Or you could find someone who says they're moving out and then takes the washing machine, fridge and other various bits.
I'd probably try get in with somebody I knew if I was to do it again, is there not anybody you know that would be willing to? Even if its in your office?

Personally speaking, i couldnt and wouldnt share a flat with anyone. Like others have said, if i was you, i'd keep saving up for your own place.

It makes me laugh all these people saying stay at home and save the money for your own place. Some people dont want to live off their parents forever and moving out to rent is the only option. It's called standing on your own two feet.
Some people are too quick to use the "stay at home and save" reply.

We are 24, saved our 500 a month rent that we could have done 2 years ago, and now we bought our first place in January.
So, we are talking from experience and not just one of these 'quick repliers'.
