I am guessing most of us are no older than 30 with the odd exception to a few members, so let's make a cut off date of 1980...

Who do you think is the best striker from our lifetimes?

For me it's very tough, I'm not really a biased man but I would put Romario and Ronaldo in the candidates, Crespo also has a fantastic scoring record, then there's your players like Batistuta, Ian Rush, Fernando Torres, Henry, Shearer, Raul, van Nistelrooy, van Basten etc....

I would have to say Ronaldo, purely because he maintained the records for so long, bad injury after bad injury kept threatening his career and he still cameback and did the business, setting a World Cup record and even out of shape, still scoring goals with an average of 1 in 2.

Torres isnt up there yet, he can be if he continues to play how he is but not off the back of 2 good seasons.

One of the best and most natural I have personally seen is Robbie Fowler. Im not saying he is the greatest but for me he is right up there.

I think Fowler was natural talent but going to Leeds fucked him up IMO, same with Owen really when he left.

Keeping with the current theme of picking our own players.

Steve Howard.

Ronaldo signed for Corinthians in 2009, I have thought he was the best striker sinced he basically handed Brazil the WC in 02, he did not play for us then.

But Howard is probably the second best.

Nah, he was fucked before then. The night he did his knee ligaments is what did him, he was never the same after that. Lost a few yards of pace (he was never the fastest, but had a fast first 5yrds) and that was it for him. Constant injury problems ruined his career.

Begrkamp had loads of natural talent, [alan hansen]for me it needs to be someone who has everything, pace, vision, skill, creativity, someone who has won everything and for me that's henry. [/ alan hansen]

Good question.

If anyone remembers watching the Italia 90 they will remember Roberto Scallci (sp) performances for Italy, although as soon as Italia 90 ended he went down hill faster than Steves 106 GTi.

So for that reason he cannot really be included.

Andy Cole sticks in my mind as a superb out and out striker, although internationally he was pretty useless.

Ian Wright? Again same as Cole as at International level he was really tested.

Roberto Baggio? Romario, so so many I'm not sure I could pick.

He was awesome, a little bit before my time in terms of when i got interested in football but he was a genius.

Consistently over many seasons he was amazing though.

Same with Shearer - banged 20+ goals for years and was decent for England too.

Peter Beardsley?

Shearer is the obvious choice, although I think Lineker was a better player.

Shearer replaced him in 1992 in that friendly against France.

The best striker I have ever seen play is Ronaldo especially when I saw him at Inter in the San Siro.

If I could pick the best player of our generation it would have to be Gascoigne, oh my goodness.

Ally McCoist

I however would have to go with Henry, he was phenomenal in his time at Arsenal and when he first arrived there he wasn't even an out and out striker. Ronaldo was also an awesome talent and as Jiz said he has come back from several bad injuries to score goals.

Raul is also due a mention in my opinion as he just always seems to be in the right place, and has scored a barrow load of goals for Real

Gazza was great, but imo was more of a midfield maestro than an out and out striker *puts on flame suit*
