Who says it has to be a shitwagon??????
You can get a cheap car that's not dog slow and cost's heaps to insure.
What about a Mk3 Golf? Driver maybe? They are well solid, run forever, highly moddible, have nice poke and don't cost the earth to insure! Get a qoute.

LOTS of difference!
I would say a 1.2 16v Sporting is the same as a 1.4 16v Corsa.

Yeah, to be honest the Punto always gets over looked and thats why there so cheap.
You won't be disapointed with it.

From my experience of driving my bros gfriends sporting i found the engine was very revvy and responsive, however after 50mph it was gutless and felt very breathless. Would be nice car to drive round town due to the peppy engine but handling was so bad it scared me and the quality of the interior was dreadful.

What sort of mileage are you looking at?
Things to look out for are worn rear radius arm bushes and dents, there not as well put together as the Corsa so dent easier.

Handling is dreadfull, I would admit that.
Even worse on the GT as its got more power.
The only way to solve it is to spend £££'s on a DECENT suspension kit and a strutbrase.

i only went round town then down the dual carriage way in it just to see what it was like, didnt go much over 70. But as soon as you go into 3rd it doesnt have the torque to keep accelerating very well due to the low capacity. My brothers corsa SRi 16v pulls a hell of a lot better in 3rd gear and would definately out accelerate it. But in 1st and 2nd it was very nippy and the engine revs quite freely. A drove it again with a GMAX kit on it a few months later and bodyroll was a lot less but it still handled like poo, as ollie says you need to get a DECENT kit for it. I wouldnt say it was a horrible car, i`d have one as a 2nd car for short trips shopping/work etc.
