Restricted or DAS test?
I passed my test last week and went for a Suzuki SV650S. Love it so far. Test ride a few bikes if possible to help you decide. The GSXR looks nice though insurance may be high on it!

Im doing the DAS test mate, Insurance is around the 700 quid mark, Im also considering the Ninjas, R1, R6 and the honda CBR'S.

Ah right. Well you've got to pick a bike that will provide a balance between enjoyment and reasonable running costs IMO (I did anyway). I'm only 20 so I would dread to think what it would cost to insure a GSXR or R1 etc! The SV650 seemed like a great introduction into big bikes and it's plenty quick enough for me at the minute, insurance is OK too. If you fancy a supersports though, go for it I say.

Not a bad first bike. Either that or a Honda CBR600F would be your best bet for a first big bike!

I would say cbr600f to^^
Nice and comfortable on the F and not so bulky as an srad, srad is really wide.
Srad crap in traffic I found, can hardly move.
Found it quite boggy before 5k rpm and needed long time on choke to warm up, maybe just my srad, thank the Jews for fuel injection.

Around the 2k mark, But for the right bike could possibly push it to 2.5

You could quite easily pick up a K3 GSXR for that sort of money...
A tidy late 90's CBR would come in well under 2k and be just as much fun.

well ive just bought the gsxr in the picture off ebay for just 900 pounds its a 97 with 28k on the clock which i see as good but it will need a new rear tyre soon
lmao dizzy i did think about a bandit for a few days as the insurance was only 300 but decided i wanted a sports bike as i would just want to change to one in a few months anyway would rather pay extra insurance now and be happy with the bike

Not a bad first bike, will get you used to sportsbike riding style and a bit of power too. and its cheap enough so if you send it up the road it wont upset you too much either.
