I was driving this morning and my car for some reason went to the red line and wouldnt stop. I was thinking the throttle cable had jammed open, so i got it stopped and opened the bonnet. Throttle cable was fine. Turned the car off and left to stand for a while. Started it up and it was still bouncing off the limiter. Finally after afew more goes the revs came back down but was ideling like crap and was rubbish to drive. Managed to get the car home and ive just started it up again and its bouncing off the limiter again!
Any ideas what the problem could be ???????
My car is a 1.6 sport (X16XE)

100% sure the cable wasn't stuck, cause I know it's not easy to see the cable at a glance on that engine...

Mine did this when the inlet manifold gasket went.
But sounds more like throttle cable, and as ellis said its not easy to see at a glance as there is no room in the bay.

Aye, get your hand onto the pivot for the butterfly and see if she's tight.

Had a good look and i think ive found the problem. My Mantzel inlet has 2 holes, 1 has a pipe out of it and the other normally has a bold in it. The bolt is now gone so i have a hole in the side of the inlet!
