I've got a vauxhall astra 2.2 sri with 134k on the clock and I've recently bought a new car so this I need to get rid of the astra. It's should be worth about £1000 but the engine seems to be shot. It's making really loud mechanical sounding knocking noises from the engine which get worse when you rev. I assume this means the engine is destroyed! It's been buring oil and I think it's been run with no oil for a few miles. I've tried topping it up a bit but I think it's too late now!
Other than the engine problems the car is in good nick = good bodywork, good interior etc.
So basically I'm wondering what's the best option to maximise the money for this car.
Get it fixed? Sell it as it is? Split it for scrap? Or any other ideas?

try in the region section itself, more people in that area would look there. im sure someone would buy it to put a LET in it, if its the standard sri bodywork and interior then you wont get alot just for the shell

it's got 9 months MOT and about 3 months tax. Will it make it to wirral from cardiff - god knows, i'd say unlikely judging by the engine noise but I'm not an expert!

lol already got one of them, the jetta, bought it while a bit drunnk, bloody ebay.

so my reckoning is the car is worth £1000 with a running engine. I'd imagine I could get a replacement engine / engine fixed for about £500. So it's worth £500 as it stands? Would ebay be a good shout for offloading it? Cheers

Did it ever have the cam chain oil injector replacement thing? Might be whats up therefore not necessarily a complete bust engine?!

i bought my 2.2 sri, with 50k on the clock, with a big end knocking like hell for £800
It was pretty mint and had full irmscher kit. so you might be lucky to get £500 for yours.
on mine the big end bearing had spun and ground the crank journal, so was irrepairable.
i got a short engine from allvaux for £200, then rebuilt it with new chains e.t.c

Yeah not the end of the world yet, the amount of 1.8 16v/2.0 16v Ecotec engines floating around you could just replace it with one of those.
