As the title says.

Im looking more stopping power on my 1.6 sport.

What rear disc's either from another Vauxhall, Cavalier etc or either Green stuff discs etc.

Also I would like to upgrade the brake pads at the same time.

What Braking setup's do people recommend?

Thanks

I have got 15" alloys on the car, if it makes a difference, to the size of Discs that can go on.

More to the size of the calipers that will fit under the alloys.

Keep the rears standard drums and replace the front brakes for 2ltr ones. 256x24mm discs. Much improvement.

2.0 16v brakes with a good set of pads and discs and maybe even braided flexis should be good enough for you

Ok, if I keep the standard drums on the back. And put 2.0 16v brakes up front. From what car would be best to get them from, Cav, Astra etc.

256x24mm discs are these off any of the above 2.0 cars? And Braided Flexis, would these be of major benifit aswell.

Has anyone upgraded their brakes on their 1.6 sports? Would appreciate some advice as what you have up front.

Thanks

We've just advised you. 2ltr brakes up front. Off a Cav, Astra etc. The discs on the 2ltr set up are 256x24mm. Just keep standard drums on the back.

Didn't mean to sound a twat. But yes. I had that set-up on my old XE corsa and it was spot on. Discs on the rear's arn't needed in all honestly.

P1CK4D, no worries mate.

Lee Mitchell, in your own opinion is putting rear discs on more trouble than they are worth, maintenance, any common faults with them etc.

I have owned cars with rear discs, not Corsa's. And you diffently notice the difference, thats my opinion anyways

Has anyone got any pics of the side of their cars that have rear discs, so I can see what it looks like?.

Im looking to do it because not too many Sports that I know of have it done, also because it looks good and different on a Corsa, but mainly because I want that extra stopping power

Still in 2 minds over it, should I go for it and get the conversion done. Or just upgrade my front discs and pads. I will make up my mind soon

If you want stopping power just upgrade the fronts. I had rears and i couldnt see a noticable difference when i twatted the rear beam and had to go back to drums.

Up front I had the Astra GTE 2.0 16v discs and callipers, then I tried a V6 setup which was horrid with a super spongy pedal then I had some Reyland 4 pots on a 300mm disc. Obviously the 4 pots stopped the best but they are quite expensive, for what you want i would say the 256mm 2 litre setup with mintex 1144 pads and braided hoses. Dont skimp on the fluid as well if you plan on using the brakes to slow you down more than once. Ive always used castrol response super dot 4 with no issues.
