i have a standard cd player in my car with a cd changer in the boot. i have a new stereo but not sure whether i can plug my cd changer into a new stereo.

is there something i need to look out for on the stereo? like anything in the description or spec?

I would doubt it very much, generally changers are very "brand" based, e.g alpine only works with alpine and a jvc with a jvc.
Even then within the brands some will work with a changer and some wont. I'd say if your getting a new radio, forget about the cd changer, take it out and bin it, ipods and usb are the way forward
