if your papering straight ontop of fresh plaster i would advise you to to atleast seal it up first just by giving it a single coat of some crappy paint you have kicking about cause if you dont the paper wont slide on top of it and will make it 100x harder to paper as the plaster will absorb all the moisture out the paste and you'll be left with a half papered wall

Is anyone else sad at the thought of the fireplace being blocked up?
I like features like that.

have you left a vent? If not you may find that plaster getting a bit damp in winter months.
And cap the chimeny to stop crap falling down!
We had a fat pigeon in our living room fireplace the other day!

na, ours is a working fire place, and Fee heard it in the chimney + soot and feathers were falling down. She blocked the bottom so it couldnt get into the room when it fell all the way down.
Once it was at the flu/neck her and her ma chucked it in a bucket and popped it outside

Looks much better, see what you mean with the plug socket now.
As said before, are you venting the bottom of the chimney breast?

That's one of my pet hates on peoples rooms, why would you have it above a fireplace? That's crazy.
The Currys advert at the moment being a prime example.

They also always say how they've thought about it before putting it up and decided it's the correct height.
Amazes me because I've got TV's in various rooms all over the house and not one of them would be comfortable at above fireplace height

http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/59632_PE165520_S4.jpg Got my games room one on that, for PC and TV use, probably a little bit low, but i'm on a small futon so eye-level is still below the top of the screen.
And the living room is on a similar unit to http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/0086566_PE215391_S4.JPG Which is great for watching lying down. Probably about the same height as scoob.
Does anyone stand up to watch TV ?
