My brothers 21 and he will not come away with us in septemeber because of his phobia of flying, he has not yet to this day ever flown so as i keep telling him it might not be as bad as he thinks, has anyone else had this problem and what can i do to help him as he really wants to come away but really doesnt want to fly, obvioulsy there is no other way of getting to morocco other than flying unless he wants to pay double and spend a week travelling on various busses, trains and boats?

I've been to Casablanca. He's not missing out by staying at home.
But regards the flying, maybe try a short domestic flight to begin with. I understand there are some phobia flights specially for those with a fear of flying to go on. Like a counselling thing.

My first time on a plane this friday - I'm bricking it lol, but looking forward to it at the same time - you can't seriously say you can be scared of something you've never done!

Tell him to neck a few sleeping pills or a load of booze before the flight, problem solved! Plus he would be missing out on a fair bit if he stayed at home, i would recommend Morocco (unless you're after a beach holiday) - where abouts are you heading?
Ash - i thought Casablanca was pretty cool, although it's a complete bastard of a place to drive especially in a fur covered car

Don't know how someone can be so against flying when they've never experienced it. I can understand nerves, but not a full on phobia. Tell him to man up and get on with it.

I hated it. Constantly pestered by dodgy street people, to the extent where our tour buses had armed guards front and rear to keep us safe.
"Sir, I like to sell you genuine Rolex, just 200 dollars!"
"No thanks."
"Ok ok, 250 dollars!"
"WTF, no!"
"Last offer, 300 dollars!"
"Fuck off."

There's a greater chance of survival in a car accident though.

sad isn't it.
our return tickets this morning had seat numbers 26C and 26D printed on them. got on the plane and found out theres only 25 rows of seats. shit myself incae they had over booked or something.
after sitting in row 25 for half hour until we were ready to take off, the hostess told us they print 26 instead of printing 13 on the tickets as people get scared if they have a seat in row number 13 apparently

Same as any other fear or phobia, there's not much you can do about it. I don't like it but I just get on with it tbh, it's more the space fact than the flying for me though - hate being crammed in.
I had a shitty flight coming back from Spain with a stinking hangover which has put me off for life I think

well i'd rather be in a plane that crashes into the river hudson then be in a car that drives off a bridge into it

Last flight I had encountered very bad turbulence, some people were gasping and sounding all upset, but it was no worse than being on a badly maintained road in a National Express coach.
I just fell asleep and woke up when the plane landed

That was a fix imo, the pilot just happened to be the guy that wrote the book on succesfully ditching a plane on water. Literally
